5 Desert Island Discs:

  1. 1.Phil Collins: Serious Hits Live Phil Collins is your dad. This album is the ultimate compilation (but the DVD is even better!) and it's live. and it's slick. So goddamn slick. Daryl Stuermer's guitar playing on it is superb and has influenced me a lot. And the sound of Phil's voice just brings me back to childhood. I think it must've entered my subconscious at a very young age and now I can't shake it off. He rules.
  2. 2.Lionel Richie: Encore Another live best of. Again, flawless musicianship and classic, classic tunes. Great for singing along to in the car when no one can see you making a tit of yourself.
  3. 3.Michael Bolton: Time, Love and Tenderness You must by now be thinking 'WTF mate?!' but I'm fucking serious! I do dig cheesy love songs and general 80s balladry, and this here is probably the epitome of that. Smooth as a baby's arse. Check it out, don't be a meathead all your life!
  4. 4.Pantera: Cowboys From Hell (or maybe that Reinventing Hell, best of) My favourite all time band. I cannot stress that enough. They really did change my life and Dimebag is the biggest single influence on me I've ever had. It goes beyond the music too. I grew up watching their home videos (no other bands were doing that) and basically learned how to be a man from them, rather than from my parents. Oops!
  5. 5.Can I take three of Renny's choices and put them on an mp3 CD? 'Cos at this point I'm having real trouble deciding on one more CD and the thought of being stuck on an island with just 5 is making me quite upset. If not, then I'd just say either of those three: Sevendust - Animosity, Machine Head - Burn My Eyes or Meshuggah - Chaosphere.

Personal Bio & How you came to be in FN:

I always wanted to play an instrument, even before I was into music. My parents encouraged it when lessons were offered at primary school. I took up violin first, got fairly good and then moved onto piano for a while. This was all through primary school and when I left I kinda just stopped playing music.

I quickly picked it up again (through school!) but was again faced with a choice of instruments. I nearly went for the cello but then suddenly realised that guitars were quite cool. My Nan and Grandad, for some reason, had about three Spanish guitars stashed in their garage and said I could have one. I picked the one that turned out to have been my mum's. She never got far with it apparently. So I took classical guitar lessons for about a year and then got bored. As I was starting to get into rock and pop I realised that the electric guitar was the way forward. I got one for my 14th birthday and that was it. I started listening to loads of rock and metal and learning as much as possible from ear. I had quite a few lessons but I'm mainly self taught.

I was in a dodgy punky hardcore metal band when I was 18, called Hostyle Product. We had a laugh, but we were shit! I left after about a year and didn't play in a heavy band until I was nearly 24. Until then I kept myself busy playing in a pub rock band with dad! That was good fun and good experience but I still had the metal rock star dream in mind. I tried so many times to start other bands but people were shit. Though all these years I did actually know Kev and Chris Ransom (ex-guitarist) quite well, so when Forever Never were about a year into their search for the missing link, I finally got a call I guess they thought of me as a last resort). I blew out the drummer who'd been standing me up for 6 months to go and try out for them. I chose wisely.
