5 Desert Island Discs:
- 1. Skindred - Babylon: Skindred are pretty much my favourite band right now. I love their mix of Reggae/Punk/Metal! We've been lucky enough to play a couple of shows alongside these guys and they're insane live! As well as a great bunch of guys! They've seriously got it all!
- 2. Jamiroquai - High Times: His greatest hits album with pretty much all of my fave songs on. I guess thats the idea of a 'Greatest Hits'! lol. It's one of my favourite albums to chill out to.
- 3. Pendulum - Hold Your Colour: Ultimate Party Album! Simple as! (Because you always party on a desert island)
- 4. Silk - Silk: Assuming my lady is stranded on the desert island with me. May as well have some mood setting tunes! ;P
- 5. Phil Collins - But Seriously: Listened to this alot in my dads car when I was a kid! Awesome album!
Personal Bio & How you came to be in FN:
I started playing guitar at the age of 12 when my friend, who'd already been playing a few years offered to teach me. Pretty much straight away we started making a band together playing Beatles & Eric Clapton cover's. It was great, im really happy I learnt that way - using proper chords and stuff. It really bores me when people learn to play guitar and just learn how to play the fashion genre of the time...
I was in pretty much the same band until I was 16 although after a year or so we'd started writing our own material, and i somehow ended up lead singer/guitarist... I think at the time I was the only one with the bottle to sing! It wasn't until the age of 15 though that I played my first show - I was proper shitting it! The band carried on playing local Essex shows for a year or so, until I left to form a new band with my cousin and a guy I knew from school. Same deal really we played Lots of shows all around Essex but it still wasn't happening for me.
Aged 18 and after 6 months or so without gigging I joined an up and coming Essex band, and thought for sure this time we'd take over the world, but it just wasn't to be and after a falling out I went back to sitting on the sidelines.
Finally at the age of nearly 20 an opportunity to audition for 'Forever Never' arose, as their former guitarist parted ways with them. However a few days before my audition myself and my friend who'd originally taught me to play guitar, had a massive car accident, remarkably we both emerged with nothing more than a few scratches each! The next day I told Renny I wouldn't be able to audition as I was too shaken up and didn't think I'd be able to get the songs learnt in time. Luckily he's a pretty sympathetic guy and said it didn't matter and to just come along and audition with whatever I could manage! And the rest as they say is history...
Favourite Film: Ace Venture Pet Detective/When Nature Calls. Jim Carrey Is THE MAN!
Favourite TV Shows: Top Gear, Two & A Half Men.
Pet Hate: Opinionated Pricks. The People Who try and throw their opinions at you. Obviously everyone has a different opinion, but I hate it when people, just can't take it that you have a different view on a subject to them. And they try and just throw their opinion in your face all the time and will never accept that you could be right! ...GROW UP!
Drink of Choice: Lager, Jager & Red Bull
Favourite FN song to listen to: Silent Elegy... But the new stuff we've got coming is great to listen to as well!
Favourite FN song to play live: Aporia... Love playing the break down after the first chorus... Nutty!
Most memorable show to date: Probably The Astoria. I've seen so many shows there, and if a year ago someone had said to me. "Mackie in a years time you'll be playing there", I'd never have believed it. It was such a buzz walking out onstage. It was easily the smallest show of that tour, but it was the show that meant the most to all of us. I'm just glad we had a chance to play there before it closes down; it's definitely a venue like no other that will certainly be missed!
