Renny Carroll D.o.b: 8th September 1983

Instrument: Vox

Equipment:

  • Sennheiser Wireless System.
  • Shure PSM200 In-Ear Monitoring System.

5 Desert Island Discs:

  1. 1.Terence Trent D'arby - Introducing The Hardline According to... One of the very reasons that I sing today. TTD is still inspiring me years on, and is in my opinion one of the most underated vocalists of all time.
  2. 2.Sevendust - Animosity Sevendust are a band that have never been given the credit that I think they really deserve (especially in the UK), but this album is still the best one they have released, with killer songwriting and with a production that I would die for it is one of my favourite albums of all time.
  3. 3.Machine Head - Burn My Eyes What is there NOT to say about this album? It's heavy, it's still one of the best sounding metal albums of all time, and 13 years on it's still as fresh as my Nan's homegrown potatoes. Pukka.
  4. 4.Meshuggah - Chaosphere Is this the heaviest album of all time? Could well be. Meshuggah are a completely individual band that many try to imitate - and fail. Badly. Pioneers of this style of music, and would probably appear under the "influences" list of more metal bands than any other!
  5. 5.Michael Jackson - Dangerous This might well be a slightly controversial album choice out of the MJ collection, but this has some of my favourite MJ songs, and I also seem to remember enjoying this album the most when I was young. Again, a complete inspiration to me wanting to perform - a living legend in my eyes, no matter what anyone else says, you cannot deny the talent of this dude.

Personal Bio & How you came to be in FN:

I started singing from a very young age, singing along to the likes of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. At school I was always in the choirs and often chosen for solos etc, and always enjoyed singing.

After discovering metal in my early teens, I quickly became interested in the guitar and bass and taught myself all the basics. I began writing my own songs and I started up my first band when I was 17, called "-ism" as the vocalist and songwriter for the band. I learnt a lot from my old band, and had the pleasure of playing with the cream of the UK crop at the time; the likes of Lostprophets, Skindred, Breed 77, Vacant Stare etc.

During this time I also dabbled in a couple of other projects, and when -ism disbanded at the end of 2002, I went to Brighton to study the Modern Music HND course (for vocals) at The Brighton Institute of Modern Music. This definitely helped improve me as a vocalist, and I found my style of singing morph from a more rock orientated vocal style, to a more "Soul" based style. It was at the end of this year course that I met up with Kev randomly in a nightclub and we talked about forming a band. That band indeed turned out to be Forever Never. Well, after about 2 years of searching for the right people!

Favourite Film:
The Green Mile

Favourite TV Shows:
Alan Partridge, The Office, Green Wing, Blackadder, The Young Ones, Peep Show I could go on. Basically if it's British and funny - I'm down for it. South Park and Family Guy would be the best for US stuff for me.

Pet Hate:
The fact that there are a ridiculous amount of people who do not know the difference between the words "Bought" and "Brought". How you can get them even confused seems strange to me! I buy CD's. I bought CD's. I bring lots of fruit to the table at lunch. I brought loads of fruit to the table yesterday. It's so simple. Please don't get this wrong in front of me, otherwise you will score minus points. By the way, I didn't actually bring any fruit with me to the table. I should eat more of it though.

Drink of Choice:
Jager & Coke/Lemonade/Red Bull - All good. Either that or Snakebites.

Favourite FN song to listen to:
Out of the released stuff, Aporia. Favourite FN song to play live: Break The Trend is much fun at the moment.

Most memorable show to date:
Everyone will probably say the Stone Sour shows, but they were literally amazing to get the reception we did. Particularly at Birmingham. I think that was my favourite. Aside from that tour I would say maybe just the America tour in general - was amazing being such a long way from home doing what we do!
